Draw flowcharts of system structure or parts of it (my little JavaScript project)
  • virgovirgo September 2011
    Hello,
Again i have tried to make the world a better place with writing few lines of code in hope that it will be useful on day.
This tool should help draw flowchart kind of things in web environment and output is in HTML format.
As this project is in very early stage, don't hope this to be very easy to use. But i was able to make some sample with this interface and post into my wiki page http://wiki.worldforge.org/wiki/User:Virgo (not the best result but at least it is visible).

I have the working interface up there (http://hot.ee/v/virx5/) just to make it easy to test out.
As this page is using only HTML and JavaScripot, you can save the page and use it locally.
Or you can download this from sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jsflowchart/files/

The sample flowchart is also availible there: http://hot.ee/v/virx5/samples/sample_01.htm

Anyway, it would be cool (for me at least) to get some picture-like things out of this describing how worldforge system works in most general way and may be some more detailed things in future.

If this looks useful, please send feedback how to make it better (what shapes or functions would be good to have).
Then i can try to improve it in future.

Also it would be good information to me to know, what browsers support this. I have tested it only in firefox.

This works in Chrome. I think its a nice little program, and while there are many others similar to this one, as we discussed I think its really about figuring out how this one could be different in ways that are useful to this project. We discussed one possible idea for this, but I don't think it needs to become the focus, at this point I think it makes sense to just keep developing this in its own right, and the original intent, add more functionality and then later on it can possibly be used for other things like generating scripts etc like we discussed.

Some things I would recommend or like to see.

    - Maybe make the control panel small, it takes up alot of real-estate, even if you can hide it. It would be nice if it was less wide, perhaps put the Titles over the fields and make it all more vertical, and move the Code section into its own show/hide window, perhaps in a bottom window that has its own vertical scroll.
    - Be able to select, delete, modify, resize, or undo previous items placed
    - A color picker as opposed on on top of the rrggbb field
    - More object types, or the ability to import or create your own might be nice too
    - Buttons that can bring up other windows with information perhaps, or external links
    - It would be easier to make larger diagrams if the space could be zoomed or something, its tedious to have to walk an object out to slowly increase the Size/Panning of the work space.

My thinking is don't worry too much about end use cases yet, just keep working on functionality and learning at this point, and eventually additional use and function can be brought in if you like.

Just my thoughts, keep up the good work.

Howdy, Stranger!
