Hi, I am making elven armour model (based on Warhammer High elves equipment ). I need elven body model as a reference ( creating model with correct proportions will be easier ). I can use rescaled worldforge human model but from my point of view it is too complex(too many vertices). I need a model which can be displayed in great number on screen. If anyone have spare low poly human/elf model i would be glad :) It will save me a lot of work/time. I've tried "make a human" program but it also generates too complex models.
Here are my first tries:
After looking at model currently used in Ember ( more than 5000 triangles), and taking into consideration informations provided by Media Guidline (wiki page, which specyfies polys number). I would say that ~2000 triangles would be the best. Helment has ~250 triangles, and it is a little bit edgy, to make him smooth 400 triangles will be more than enough. So the target number is something close to lower limit specyfied by wiki.
I don't work on the media side, so I'll have to leave it to someone else to answer if we have anything like what you are looking for around. Love the models though. Are you interested in adding them to the WorldForge repository?
Hi, the media section is very much outdated and haven't been updated in a while. 5000 polys per character isn't much. In addition, there are lots of techniques to use when one needs to show a lot of meshes on screen. The most basic one is to provide a lower LOD version, either autogenerated or hand tuned. As such I would really recommend you that you used the current male model as reference. Also note that WF uses a scale where 1 unit == 1 meter.
Thanks for response: However i have another problem: currently Blender <- Ogre importer can't import bones and animations from *.skeleton files. Are there any blender versions of current male model (blender saves animation data with model in one *.blend file) ? I've started remodeling face to make it more "elvish", but i am not familiar with animations.
All of the source for the 3d assets are available under the "art" directory. http://wombat.worldforge.org/dir?path=art You should be able to find the .blend files for the male there.
I will add it when it will be finshed :) But there is a problem, currently i suffer from a lack of creative inspiration. All models should be decorated somehow and i don't have an idea how to do this. All "elven things" should share a common theme, they should have similar style, similar ornamentation . The point is i don't have clear idea how to create/define/describe this style. I think that i should first invent/create a common style, common set of ornaments/patterns/decorations/symbols before any of works will be finished. When i know how the thing *should look* it easier to create it :) What's more when the style will be somehow defined/described anyone else can create a piece of art that will match the rest( I assumed that long-term objective of this play is creation of minimal but "ready to play/use" set of elven: buildings, tools, armours, weapons, clothes etc.) I've already created some patters, some common symbols that (in my mind) should be characteristic for elven "culture", but they are not good enough.
So current goal is to create an overall concept/sketch of elven art/culture: Ornamentation: should be dervied from some variation of these symbols: sun, flames, geometrical figures, waves, stars. Heraldy: here idea is rather clear all arms, flags for elven will created using Tolkien concepts. Architecture: ? Other: ?
Ideas, sketches, gimp brushes, concept arts of elven things are highly welcome !!!
Elves would make a great addition to our playable races in Mason. Things haven't been fleshed out that well, but so far we have humans and goblins, and one nice game concept would be that difference races have different building styles to draw on. Humans could be based around living in houses constructed from conventional building materials, goblins could live in tunnels dug out from underground, and elves could manipulate nature to create homes from the trees. Trite and cliched I know, but just a rough idea so we can make more progress.
You are of course completely free to create the overall style and feel of your elves, which is a freedom I think a lot of artists working in games would envy. ;) Keep in mind that Mason is a low-tech, low-fantasy and pretty low-civilisation game.
