I'm in but
  • I'm able to access sear now; the last update June 2009 fixed something. Thanks who ever that was. How ever the only server i can access is amber.worldforge.org and it has no pig pen or any other food item. There are quite a few anomalies. The walk animation does not run when I move. It runs for two seconds when I click on some one. As if I'm walking to them but the avatar does not move.
Picking things up worked, even got a butchers table once. Spent the rest of that session trying to put it back in the right place. lol. Made a real mess but have cleaned it up. The pig seller is near the player start point but no pen is found??
Some of the servers recommended to me can't be accessed.
Is this my computer, my build or do I need to download something else that makes the pig pen work. Much of what I see in the inventory is different to the screen shots but they may be ember.
  • I can just speak for the amber server. It's been running for a while so it's probably a little messed up, missing npcs etc. I'll restart it.
  • How ever the only server i can access is amber.worldforge.org [...]

I'm running Ember 0.5.6 on Kubuntu 9.0.2. For me it's possible to connect to every cyphesis server with a version number of at least 0.5.20. For this server-versions you can choose a character-type in Ember (settler, skeleton, goblin) for your account-creation - on lower server-versions you can't choose anything and therefore you are not able to create an account (at least in Ember).

The walk animation does not run when I move.

I have the same problem with "amber.worldforge.org" - the walking-animation doesn't work. But according to what I have tested, it's a problem of the amber server only. On "fedora.jlist" (cyphesis 0.5.20) and on "pluton" (cyphesis 0.5.8 - I know, the latest version is 0.5.20, but this is what the server browser in Ember tells me) the walking-animations work fine.
  • I've noticed that the walk animations do not work correctly at the mo. I need to investigate why that is, but I've also been testing on amber recently.

You can always use "console commands" accessed through the ` key. You can use a command like "/add Simon settler male desc" to create a new character.
  • Al has removed many of the superflous "mode" attributes on the server side. The "mode" now only denotes placement. Default is "gravity affected". There's also "float" and "fixed" (and perhaps more, check with Al).
Animations for movement should instead be inferred by the client from the velocity. We however need some good way of determining when entities are running. That could be an additional attribute.
  • That would seem the likely cause. I recall there was a discussion on the mailing list a little while ago. I should take a look.
  • The restart worked. I bought a pig. Then lost it, then found it, then accidentally ate it.
I guess the game is not idiot proof yet.
No sign of apples or acorns. Touching the tree has no effect. How do I know if I have a fat 20kg pig?
When you put down the pig it wanders off in a slow straight line with no randomness. That's how I lost it. The head and tail wiggles.
The rooster has not got the same problem as the pig. its random walk works.
I picked the rooster up and the game crashed. Logged back in and dropped the rooster.

While I was looking I found some fur trees under the sea and moved them on shore.
Some of this may be my computer. I'm getting a new one in two weeks.
  • Ok figured out the pig and the scythe. Still no acorns but that's a low priority. I'm having my computer rebuilt next month with Gforce 9800, AMD 7750 and 2 gig ram so that should solve whatever problems are my side.
Then if I can figure out what you guys mean when you say 'build the Cyphesis', set up all the dependent bits like Atlas-c++, and learn where the heck do you put the bits of code listed in the installation instructions?Obviously we need a non programmer to get a translation from Linuxese to English. So I guess I'm it.
Since I'm not a programmer I'm inclined to build something for the non programmers so they have a place to play.
