Since I see a screenshot section I think I'll make use of it.
Here are some screenshots taken with the Ember client using terrain data supplied by my terrain generator. There is still no word on the paper which goes with this. I may replace some of our earlier screenshots with some of these.
There are 3 or 4 different maps represented, each created with different parameters. The final image shows the GUI for the generator under Windows. The general idea is that one creates a set of agents, gives them constraints and turn them loose. These maps are 1k square, for a total of 256 segments. I've probably thrown too many agents at these maps, but I was struggling for a while to find something which looked right under Ember. One of these maps takes about a minute to generate height data, texture coverage, foliage and cultural data. Of this, Ember is only using the height data at the moment.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8339/screenshot2009061800190.th.jpg A narrow valley with a couple of lakes. The broken tower model is in the background. I had the generator make something a bit mountainous so I could work out the proper scale.

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8931/screenshot2009061800281.th.jpg A different map which is slightly less steep.
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/7513/screenshot2009061800285.th.jpg I think this is the same map as the prior screenshot. This shows foothills meeting a mountain range.

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9271/screenshot2009061800353.th.jpg Another map where I asked for a flat area and a mountain range.
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/945/userscreen.th.jpg A screenshot of the generator's Windows GUI. This is the previous version, but it is close enough. I'm running the generator under Linux without a GUI at the moment.
