Im new to Cyphesis but i just set-up up my server on Fedora 10 started it up with cmd cyphesis then started cyclient and cyloadrules

I get this:

[emachala@localhost ~]$ cyphesis
2009-01-07 19:55:39 ERROR Unable to open event log file "/var/log/cyphesis/cyphesis_event.log"
2009-01-07 19:55:39 ERROR Permission denied
2009-01-07 19:55:39 NOTICE Avahi callback reported group uncommited
2009-01-07 19:55:39 INFO Running

And that it no world running or anything can anyone Help

Error about unable open logs is not fatal - cyphesis will continue logging to console.
To setup the world, you need to call cyclient. What does it say when running?

Version 0.5.16 of cyphesis is out of date and will suffer from significant compatibility issues with current clients. It also suffers with an issue with the paths for sockets and log files which has since been resolved. I'll look into building a package for Fedora 10 of the latest version and putting it on our download site.

alriddoch, why 0.5.16? Fedora 10 stable repos contain 0.5.17, and 0.5.18 in unstable.

I understood that in recent versions you were no longer using /var/log as the default directory for logs, as I applied the patch allowing you to configure the paths fully? Perhaps I have misunderstood the context of the changes.

I'm running 5.18 so should i uninstall and try 5.16?

I wanted the most updated version ofcourse... Thanks alriddoch.... is it easier if i just compile and build myself?

0.5.18 is the latest version, so that should be ok. Unfortunately the version shipped with Fedora is configured to write logs to a non-public directory, so it will fail to write the logs. As alex points out this error is non-fatal so you can get away with ignoring it.

but i get NO INFO World Running......... AFTER I launch cyphesis i load cyclient and then ruleset and all loads properly but still no change on server.... Am i supposed to have an Message telling me the World is Running?.... Just want to know i have a working server before i start trying to create my world...

It looks as though it is running just fine to me.

You should be aware that the persistence code is in development and has some issues at the moment. It is hard if not impossible for us to be sure that you will be able to keep your world safe once you start building it.

Thank you So much for your input... also since I will be world/rule building on a private network ... how do i allow ember to logon to cyphesis when its not on a static ip... I just wanna be able to logon to the vpn 192.168.0.4 or whatever... I know that the server wont show up on the server list when ember loads up

You can enter server ip (or hostname) in a field below server list.

Hey Thanks alot logged on and server is running stable cloned 50 clients and had them login in too and its running stable..... I'm excited to start working on my own world and running through all the code... Im very interested in the combat rule system, rOxXoR http://worldforge.org/dev/systems/rules/roxxor .... Is the and ruleset or anything already implemented for cyphesis i can work with?
