Error with ember, please help
  • We set up cyphesis on a ubuntu server and were able to connect to it using ember 0.5.1 on a windows xp comp. Everything works fine, but as soon as we logged in as admin and tried to edit terrain we got a weird error.

Anyone know why this happened? Or more helpful, how to fix it.
We've tried it on 3 computers and downloaded the redistributable C++ pack, we've tried it on full screen and windowed mode, etc. Please help us.
  • Hmm, you get the error when you edit the terrain, i.e. drag the blue spheres?

Could you post your c:\Document and Settsing\<user>\Application Data\Ember\ember.log file?
  • Here it is

  • We actually get the error when we click on the button to edit terrain at all. On the admin panel we click "Edit Terrain" and it freezes and has that error.
  • Hmm, I have some vague recollection of the terrain editor being broken in 0.5.1. I've fiddled a bit with getting a win32 binary of 0.5.2 built and I have a perhaps working beta you can find here: http://amber.worldforge.org/ember/relea ... -0.5.2.exe
The foliage isn't working as it should (problems with the shaders) and there's probably other stuff broken too. If you get problems when running it, try to first uninstall the previous version and perhaps also removing stuff in c:\document and settings\<user>\Application data\Ember (if you've added your own media make sure not to remove "user-media" though).
I'm currently working on improvements to the terrain editor, so if you have the ability to run from git that would give you some more features and stability. That means that you have to compile it yourself though, and only for Linux.
  • Hello!

I'm getting similar errors, both when I try and click on an editor and when I am trying to simply delete an object.
I have both an error log from Ember and a log that windows had that I dug out of my temp folder.

My performance with Ember, when it is not crashing, is slow and seems to get slower each moment I have the client running. Not sure if it's just my computer. Here's my Dxdiag and the file windows made when it crashed. (and WTF is up with all those foreign language characters in that windows file...)

    Hopefully that will help!
  • When do you get the crash exactly? I.e. is it when trying to edit an entity, or is it with the terrain editor?
