Public Domain Classical Music Recordings
  • I saw the discussion on WordForge.org's main music page about public domain classical music recordings.

I'm not actually sure just how useful classical music would be in games, it would certainly flavour a town's marketplace or tavern or even fit into sci-fi as in 2001 A Space Odyssey. What I mean is that it lacks the ambient feel of most game music and many modern film scores.

That said, I do own 3 CDs worth of expired recordings i.e. public domain works by three classical composers. A word of warning though, just because the date fits for expiry does not mean the recording actually is public domain as Yehudi Menuhin (or his estate) renewed copyright on some of his performances.

Maybe I misunderstood the main page asking somebody to look into classical music. I am sure that there must be a list somewhere online of free to use performances. Maybe you've found it and put it up there already! I don't know, but if it hasn't been done it would be a good idea!
